The annual TAF2009 (Tokyo International Animation Fair 2009) opened on March 18th.

This year they expected that the various exhibits and presentations would attract over 130,000 attendees, a number larger than ever before. Just the Professionals only day on the 18th brought in 12, 692 attendees (716 International visitors, and 648 Press) which was a very good start.
 

The next day, booth-like events and exhibitors this year were ready for the fans and looking forward to the Open to the Public Days of the convention. The TAC got a chance to check out the booths in advance. There were plenty of attractions and anime atmosphere all around, here are a few highlights:

A familiar TAF sight, the giant character balloons.

Gundam 30 has decided to build a life-size Gundam model for the 30th anniversary of this giant.

Dressed in full armor for Basara.

The figure displays feature a number of popular characters.

Everyone is looking forward to the Gurren Lagann Movie "Tengen Toppa Gurren
Lagann: Lagann Chapter (劇場版 天元突破グレンラガン 螺巌篇) coming to theaters April 25, 2009.

The Toei Animation booth had a special stage for the popular Dragon Ball character Goku and Luffy!

Anime Bazaar. Plenty of collectibles and TAF goods to line up for.

Touhou Gakuen held dubbing demonstrations so visitors can experience behind the scenes.

Merchants included companies from overseas. How about taking this chance to see unfamiliar foreign merchandise?
